Porridge the two faced parrot.

Porridge the two faced parrot is an excellent read for all children. The comical story of a young boy and a rather naughty parrot is the perfect short read. Though there is some bad language (farty bum) this book is endearing, funny and enjoyable. It takes you on voyage from confusion, disaster and just to plain silliness.

Summary of the book.

Alfie is just an ordinary school with lots of friends and a perfect family. That is until the arrival of porridge the parrot. How can a parrot cause ....... A black eye, his mum telling him off for lying, a teacher that has it in for him and worst of all having to break dance in the talent show when he can't even dance. But will he conquer his fears and perform, will his eye still be like a plum. But more to the point, what havoc will porridge wreak this time?

simultaneous equations

using subtraction.

2x + 3y = 13
2x +2y = 10

first label the equations so you don't mix them up.

2x + 3y =13 - - - - - (1)
2x + 2y = 10 - - - - - (2)

you can't solve the equations because they have a x and y in them so we to cancel one out.

we can see there is 2x in both equations and if you subtract 2x from 2x you get 0.

so we have cancelled x out but we have to do the same to the rest of the equations to make it equal.
 (1) - (2)

2x -2x = 0
3y -2y =y
13 -10 = 3

so our equation looks like this

0 + y = 3

so...

y=3

 but we still need to work out x

to do this we need to put our answer for y into an equation.

 i am going to put it into equation (2) but it doesn't matter which one you put it into

 2x + 2y =10
2x +6=10
2x=10-6
2x=4
x=4/2
x=2

so our answer to the simultaneous equation is y=3  and x=2

now try these

3x+2y=11
4x+2y=12

 x+3y=11
 x+5y=15

  3x+2y=32
  2x+2y=26

answers at bottom

using addition

2x+2y=10
-2x=y = -4

first label the equations so you don't mix them up.

2x+2y=10 ------ (1)
-2x+y = -4 ---------(2)

you can't solve the equations because they have a x and y in them so we to cancel one out.

we can see there is 2x or -2x in both equations and if you add 2x to -2x you get 0.

 so we have cancelled x out but we have to do the same to the rest of the equations to make it equal.

(2)+(1)

2x+-2x=0
2y+y=3y
10+-4=6

 0+3y=6
     3y=6
       y=6/3
       y=2

 but we still need to work out x

to do this we need to put our answer for y into an equation.

 i am going to put it into equation (1) but it doesn't matter which one you put it into

2x + 2y =10
 2x+4=10
 2x=10-4
2x=6
x=6/2
x=3

so our answer to the simultaneous equation is y=2 and x=3

now try these

2x+3y=16
3x-3y=-6

y+3x=16
24y-3x=9

x+4y=18
-x+=-3

answers at bottom

subtraction answers
x=1,y=4
x=5,y=2
x=6,y=7

addition answers
 x=2,y=4
x=5,y=1
 x=6,y=3

Bargains Galore

So my grandparents have come down for the halfterm and we went out shopping in charity shops on Tuesday. There we discovered so many bargains it was unreal.

The first thing I spotted on the shelf was a lovely white handbag, as I needed a new school bag I started begging my mum to let me buy it. After about ten minutes of prancing about commenting on all its best features and saying how it hung just right over my shoulder she agreed to let me buy it,  for just £4.99, rather reluctantly I must say. When we got home my mum looked up the brand of bag it was then discovered much to our shock that it was worth roughly between $100-$160.

 The next shop had equally exciting exhibits one of which I bought, a pair of gorgeous brown boots with wool along the top. They had barely been worn, there were no scuffs on the toe, the sole of the shoe had no dirt on it and only  a tiny bit of wear, for only £4.00. They fitted perfectly on the in-proportionate size 6 feet and as I tried them on I was sold.

The last charity shop we went in I found the funniest game ever CHARADES we had been playing this the evening before but had run out of ideas so having the official game was wonderful of course we bought it and once we were home we started playing.

It had all the rules and signs you had to use for instance women.

That made us laugh just by itself but as the game continued the cards were producing very random charades one of which caused much hilarity. My grandma got a charade and one of the words was aspects. So she did the two different syllables as and pects. To act as she started walking up and down slapping her bum and putting her hands on her head looking like ears/horns. We now know she was acting ass but at the time we could only think of bum, butt, horn, slap and many others but not ass. By now we were crying laughing so she went on to acting pects she started walking around flapping her arms like a chicken after a while of her doing this she started pecking at the air except we all thought she was plucking or pinching. About fifteen minutes later we guessed aspects and the relief on her face was clear.
Entertainment for hours just for £1.50.

GLASTONBURY.

 The best part of Glastonbury in my opinion was when we saw Rita Ora, Dizzee Rascal and the circus pavement. I liked Rita Ora because she was very good singing live which not all singers are ( you know who I'm talking about). She was a very good crowd entertainer which made all the difference because I hate it when they get up on stage sing then leave with no interaction with the audience. Next was Dizzee Rascal he was amaze balls it was especially funny because he had his swear on and made the crowd sing "lets go fucking bonkers ahaaaaaa"  x? Number of times. It was brilliant when he jumped into the crowd and the security guards were chasing looking very serious. While he was having a whale of a time.

 And lastly there was the circus pavement which was a small stage where different acts came on and performed mostly circus acts but there were also mimes and magicians. One of my favourite acts on the circus pavement was Billy Kidd who was very funny and rude.

 I also liked the climbing wall in the green kids field. I spent the majority of the time on it, coming away with a different bruise on me from where I had whacked myself on it everyday.

 Another thing I liked was I <3 ostrich which did the best ostrich burger I have ever tasted (we shall not mention that this was the first time I had ever eaten ostrich) out of all the ostrich burgers I have had.

On the other hand the toilets were an obstacle of their own, my thighs are toned to perfections (bit of an exaggeration) from using them. The best bit of using the long drop toilets was playing toilet roulette. Yes that is what we played in the morning toilet roulette I shall say no more. Overall Glastonbury was the best experience of my life (so far) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
